THINGS TO SEE & DO
Escape, Getaway, Relax, Retreat
and Have Fun, Too!
With plenty of outdoor beauty,
year-round festivals and events, recreational activities and
local and area attractions, Perry County is a great base for
your next outdoor vacation. You’ll enjoy the mighty Ohio
River, the grand Hoosier National Forest, two wineries, three
museums, river cabins & yurt lodging as well as modern hotels
and a big helping of southern Indiana hospitality. Explore our
local recreation and local attractions in more detail.
The
county's three primary festivals derive their themes from the
natural beauty of the forests and hills (the spring Dogwood
Festival in April, the Hoosier Heritage Fall Tour in October,
and Schweizer Fest - the Swiss festival which honors Tell
City's Swiss heritage in the land where the Swiss found beauty
that paralleled their homeland). Both the Dogwood Festival and
Fall Tour are touring festivals where you enjoy the food and
fun along the way as you view the spring flowers and fall
colors. The Fall Tour attracts many auto buffs to the car show
in Bristow and festival goers enjoy art shows, historic
re-enactments, and plenty of food and entertainment in
communities around the county as visitors travel the miles of
colorful roadways during both the Dogwood Festival and the
Fall Tour.
Schweizer
Fest is held in early August and is now one of Indiana's
longest running festivals. Walking tours, flea markets,
carnival rides, entertainment, class reunions, bicycle races,
line dancing, and family games and contests fill the City Hall
square in downtown Tell City. Farmers markets are held at the
Tell City City Hall Park on Saturdays June thorugh October.
For more festivals and year round events visit the community
calendar.
For
local history visit one of our three museums or pick up a
walking tour brochure at a local service station, hotel or at
the Chamber on the 2nd floor at 645 Main Street in Tell City
and take a self-guided walk through time in downtown Cannelton
and Tell City. |
